In a season of surprises, there just wasn’t enough of them left for us at the end of the Sugar Bowl. Oh, our defense played lights out once again, making Auburn’s stellar running backs look like mere mortals. The final surprise really was that Bryan Randall showed some of the inexperienced play that he became famous for the previous three seasons, making poor throws and trying to force things. And it was no surprise really that Brandon Pace is still a donkey.
I mean how many clutch kicks has the guy made for us…ever? EVERY kick in a bowl game is a clutch kick, and he just couldn’t perform last night.
It’s really been a great season for the Hokies though. They weren’t even picked near the top of the ACC this season, yet they somehow managed to reel off eight in a row to take the crown. It only spells good things for the Hokies next season as our team is sure to only get better, but we will have to deal with an inexperienced (but hopefully matured) Marcus Vick.
Hats off to Randall, Beamer, and the Hokies for an almost sugary-sweet end to the season. This team had a lot of heart, and it really showed.
