Wow.
That’s what I have to say after the butt-whoopin’ Virginia Tech put on Miami on Saturday night. What a great game. It was Beamerball through and through as our defense and special teams did most of the talking, although there was a flash of brilliance from Marcus Vick (known to some as MV2, his brother Michael was MV1) on his flick-of-the-wrist TD pass to Ernest Wilford. I really regret not going to the game as it was arguably the greatest victory in the history of VT. Never before had we shown up in the big games; we’ve come close before, but never have our guys played so well and with so much focus and discipline.
What makes it more shocking is this came after the debacle that was the West Virginia game. Never before have I been so disgusted with the VT football team. Everything just fell apart in every way that it could; everyone in Hokieville was truly down-trodden.
What happened? What caused our team to disintegrate at the absolute worst possible time? Could the WVU fans be more stupid? I’m going to burn my couch while I think this all over.
Alot of people were crying for the coaching staff to be fired, especially Beamer. I’ll admit the thought did cross my mind, but I know better. I’ve been through worse seasons than this (anyone remember going 2-8-1?). After WVU, we were still 6-1, had the #10 (or #11 depending on which poll you follow) team in the country, and were still alive for a BCS bowl. Them came Miami.
And so now we still have a shot at the national championship, albeit a small one. But more importantly, we have respect. We are a football force to be reckoned with and Beamerball is alive and well. We still have some tough games ahead (i.e. Pitt), and a BCS bowl isn’t a lock yet, but we control our own destiny. Hopefully, our football team will rally after this great victory and march through the rest of the season returning INTs for TDs and blocking kicks all the way.
On to Pitt. Let’s go Hokies!!!
