So Tech and Miami are now in the ACC…well, starting next season. It really looked bad for the Hokies when all of theses shenanigans first started with BC and Syracuse being invited instead. I think if that had occured, it would have killed Tech’s football program after coming so far over the last ten years.
Luckily, fate was on our side. Whether from pressure from UVA or the lawsuit filed by the schools left behind, the ACC eventually came to it’s collective senses and made Tech part of the deal and removing BC and Cuse (who didn’t really want to go in the first place).
Now, some people are pointing at Tech and calling us traitors. But hey, what were we supposed to do? There are definite concerns about the viability of the Big East as a football conference, and an ACC with Miami and Tech would be arguably the strongest football conference in all of the land. Any other school in our position would have done the exact same thing. The reall villian in all of this was Miami who was promising they were in the Big East to stay while secretly negotiating with the ACC for years.
It’s going to be alot tougher for Tech (or any ACC team) to go undefeated now, let alone win a National Championship, but I think it will definitely make our football team better. The ACC will probably add a 12th team so that there will be a conference championship so that means more money for everyone as well.
Too bad our basketball team will get their butts kicked for years to come. Where is Ace Custis when you need him? 🙂
