After 3 long years of nothing but school, I’ve finally graduated. Graduation took place May 11th and all my family was there to see me walk across that stage. It was a happy day!

After graduation Brian and I decided to head to Asheville, NC and visit the Biltmore Estate. What a beautiful place! We’ve never seen anything like it. It is a castle/mansion built in 1895 by George Vanderbilt. We toured the home, the grounds, the winery (where we bought several bottles of delicious wine) and stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast. After that we decided to add some adventure to our vacation and headed to West Virginia where we camped out, kayaked and went whitewater rafting. It was great and I can’t wait to do it again! We have pictures, videos and more pictures of all the events named above. Please check back to see them all soon.

I am now a Registered Nurse Applicant and have officially started working. I am also studying to take my licensing exam later this summer. No pressure!

More updates soon.

School

Two weeks and a day! That’s what I have left of school. I am currently trying to survive my internship (preceptorship) and it’s going well. I’m a little tired but that was to be expected. Working 12 hours shifts is tough but I’m learning a lot and love the job. Taking on a full load of patients was a scary thought before the week started but I’m handling it okay and have to praise all the nurses out there who do it every day. After this week is over, I have 2 more weeks of lecture, one test and one gigantic final on May 1st. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it……

Everything Else

It is Brian’s birthday this month and I gave him a classical guitar as a gift. He has been wanting to learn the guitar for a long time and our good friend James has been teaching him and even letting Brian borrow his guitar. I thought it would be a perfect gift and he loved it. He practices every night and has a lot of fun. James and Krystyn were very generous and bought him a case for it and I am very thankful for their assistance in purchasing the guitar as I had no idea what to look for. You guys rock!

My mom just left after visiting for 10 days and we had a lot of fun together. I love listening to the latest Spanish music with her, watching our favorite novela “La Fea Mas Bella” on Univision and eating that wonderful Puerto Rican food she makes so well. She is the best cook in the world and I truly believe she could open a restaurant and make a fortune. I guess I’m a little biased but she rocks in the kitchen!!

Weather

Sucks right now. I’m waiting to put the jacket away but no such luck yet.

Vacation

Still planning. Not sure where we want to go this year. Last year we went to Disney World for a week and had the best time in the world. Trying to top it this year but Brian and I LOVE Disney so that will be hard to do. We’ll see.

That’s all for now.

I guess it’s about time to wish everyone a happy new year so…Happy New Year!

I haven’t updated much lately because I was off the entire week after Christmas, and we spent much of the time relaxing and taking day trips. I received a ton of great gifts, and as always, everyone was extremely generous and I’m very grateful. Lately I’ve been playing with one of my Christmas presents just a tad. Yes, I have one now thanks to Monica and her family. Woohoo!

So that’s taking up much of my free time right now, especially this game, and I haven’t done much of anything else. I haven’t even posted any Christmas pictures yet, but I think I’ll do those tomorrow.

Update: photos have been added here, here, and here.

We didn’t make it downtown for the Macy’s parade, but we did manage to hit Manhattan on Black Friday to see the window displays. Macy’s definitely had the best, but they were all pretty good. You can check out the pictures here.

We walked all over downtown, and I even got my roasted chestnuts that I love. While we were checking out the windows at Bloomingdale’s, a man behind us asked us a question.

Him: You ever watch HGTV?

Us: Sure.

Him: Would you like to be on TV?

Us: Yeah, that would be great.

Him: We’re making a show about holiday windows, and we’d like you to just talk a little about what you see here.

Us: Okay, that sounds easy.

Then he gave us some microphones and started filming us. I don’t think we even realized what we were saying at the time because we couldn’t believe what we were doing. One second you’re enjoying Christmas decorations, and the next some dude has a camera and you’re waxing poetic about the artistry of Bloomingdale’s holiday windows. We moved from window to window, and then he finally turned the camera directly on us and started asking us questions. At the end we signed releases and then we were on our way. He said he’d even send us a copy of the show.

So if you’re watching HGTV on Sunday, December 3rd at 9pm, check out a show called Holiday Windows 2006. Who knows if we’ll even make it on the show, but it was fun while it lasted.

Eleven hours later and we finally arrive in New York. This was one of the worst drives we’ve experienced in recent memory. Here’s what we encountered:

  • windy and rainy conditions in southern VA
  • an accident in Northern VA
  • rush hour in in Northern VA
  • an accident in MD
  • three of four lanes closed in DE
  • two lanes closed on the George Washington bridge

Who ever decided to close the lanes in DE and NY needs to go to that special part of hell that no one really knows about. I mean seriously, are they smoking crack or something? Closing lanes during the busiest travel time of the year? Who are these people?

Anyway, we’re here. And now to top it all off, there’s supposed to be the worst weather in the history of the world for the parade tomorrow, so it’s not looking as if we’ll make the trip downtown.

But really, I’m very thankful for everything I have. Right?

We’re off to New York to spend Thanksgiving with Monica’s family. We’re going to attempt to go the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday. Neither of us (or anyone in Monica’s family) has been previously so we’re not sure what to expect as far as crowds and such, but I think being there in person should be awesome. I’ll try to post some pictures afterwards and maybe even moblog some stuff during the event so check back to see some really big balloons.

Steve and Tanya exchanging vowsSpent the weekend in Richmond attending the wedding of two of our friends, Steve and Tanya. I was honored to serve as one of Steve’s groomsmen, and I think my ushering skills were top notch. Sharing their special day as well as spending the weekend with old friends was a true pleasure.

The weather was perfect, and we got to stay at a pretty nice hotel called the Linden Row Inn. The wedding itself was held at The Jefferson so we experienced some very old yet historic parts of Richmond. All in all, a very classy event, and a good time was had by all.

Congratulations, Steve and Tanya!

Brian and I went on vacation in May. He was supposed to write about it but I think he has given up on updating this website. We visited Disney World, Epcot, Sea World (which I’d never been to) and MGM studios. We had a great time and I loved meeting Shamu!

After we came back I started my summer classes and thankfully those are now over. I did well and I’ve already registered for the fall….less than a year, less than a year, less than a year………

On July 4th we gathered with friends and headed to see the Dave Matthews Band. It was a great show with fireworks at the end and everyone had a great time. After the concert we came out the wrong way and had to cross through some bushes to get to our car and as a result, Brian is now recovering from the worst case of poison something I’ve ever seen.

As far as summer movies we’ve seen: Poseidon – awful; X-Men – pretty good; Superman – good; The Devil Wears Prada (monica only) – really good. We still need to see Pirates and we are still debating whether we will go see World Trade Center.

Brian and I celebrated our 3rd year Anniversary. Praise God!

Okay, I know this was a very short summary but that’s all I have for now.

I think it’s about time I talked about our vacation. We had been talking for awhile about visiting Florida and some of the theme parks, but we weren’t really sure. Then my Dad was talking about his trip to Florida in May so we thought we would head down at the same time for a visit and hit some parks while we were at it. Unfortunately, Monica’s school schedule didn’t cooperate so we had to scrap those plans, but by then we had Disney fever so we made plans to drive down earlier and spend a week in Orlando.

We began by waking up very early on Saturday morning. We had gotten most everything ready the night before, but nothing was in the car yet so I had to take everything out there in the morning. Our plan was to only stop for the bathroom so we filled our cooler with all sorts of goodies for the drive down. It’s about a twelve hour drive, and the iPod was filled with all sorts of music and podcasts to keep us occupied and awake. And because it’s a must for any trip down I-95, we did stop at South of the Border.

The drive down went remarkably quick, and we arrived in enough time to relax for a bit and pick up some bottled water in preparation for the hot days ahead.

I finally got around to posting all the photos from our trip to Disney World and Sea World in Orlando, FL. There’s over 300 pictures and video clips to enjoy. Guess I got a little crazy with the camera. :D

I’ll post a full update on all of our activities tomorrow.
