Can’t believe summer is almost here!

We saw a couple of movies last weekend. Prince Caspian which we totally enjoyed and Indiana Jones which Brian says is worth watching but just ok. I thought it was just not good. Not good at all. I left feeling like they recycled some old jokes (like the whole snake thing), put in some good stunts and cob webs and that should be enough to distract you from the fact that there is no character development and the actors don’t seem to even want to try. Oh, well. Can’t wait for Batman. Hopefully that wont disappoint. Iron Man was pretty good and Robert Downey Jr. was awesome!

What will I do without The Office and Lost? Both season finales were very good and now I have to wait…American Idol was pretty good as well and I was happy David Cook won.

Summer Plans
Not much. Just relax and head to the beach.

We’re having our milk delivered every week. Isn’t that a hoot? A local dairy leaves our milk in glass bottles so that it’s there when we open the door and we just leave the old glass bottles for them to pick up. Really good chocolate milk as well! I feel very Rob and Laura Petrie!

We started adding Tofu to our diet. Very yummy!

Not much else going on. More updates soon!

The Site
The picture gallery has been taken offline for now as we try to update the website. Sorry for any inconvenience if you have tried to look yourself up in our gigantic picture gallery. If you know us and hung out with us at least once, we definitely have a picture of you!

Things have been going well. We are very much looking forward to our vacation in a couple days. Italy here we come! Make sure to check back for those pictures which we’ll be happy to share.

It’s here! Which means we have to go outside to work in the yard and that is definitely not my favorite thing to do. This year I decided to get more involved as we had some awful looking azalea bushes out front which needed to go and I was happy to spend the day digging those puppies up! Now I’m looking forward to having some lively looking plants out front. We’ll see what we come up with.

Well, it’s definitely looking like a Pottery Barn catalog around here but since I love, love, love that store then it’s not a problem. I feel like Rachel from that episode of Friends where she buys everything from Pottery Barn and then lies about it to Phoebe. It’s sad but on some days walking around that store can make a dreary day seem a little bit better. The bathrooms are in the process of being remodeled and I’m happy to say not by me. I picked out the stuff, but the man here has been busy with the ceramic tile, vanities, etc. The bad thing is sharing a bathroom in the process. Girls and boys should not share the same bathroom!

The dog
Since my last post on little Jack, things have improved a little bit. It turns out the dog has a malfunctioning thyroid and has hypothyroidism. He is now on thyroid medicine and is back to being his old self. He has lots of energy and some of the fur around his ears have started growing back!

What can I say? Not much interest around here for any of the candidates. I guess it will have to end up being the best of the worst in November and it will probably not be an improvement for how we’re doing here lately. Even if I sound pessimistic, I encourage everyone to go out and vote! It is important and a great responsibility. Remember JFK “think not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.” NOT the other way around as many have come to think in society today.

Lost is AWESOME even though we have no answers. American Idol is back and I watch it like a school girl. Waiting patiently for The Office…….
I’ve been watching Masterpiece on PBS Sunday nights as they have been presenting the works of Jane Austen (my favorite novelist of all time). They have done a beautiful job with some of my favorites. Sense and Sensibility is coming up this week and I can’t wait.

John 17:20-26.
“My prayer is not for them alone (the disciples). I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” John 17:20-26.

This was Jesus’ prayer for future believers the night before he was crucified. I thought it was important to mention since it was Easter this past week and let everyone who might read this know that He loves you and wants a relationship with you. Think about it! Without Him, none of it matters! (house, trip, politics, etc.)

March Update

Mar 112007

Sorry for the lack of updates but things have been a little hectic around here. Praise God everything is going well at brimon headquarters.

School is almost done and I have a position in a surgery trauma unit waiting for me upon successful completion of nursing school and RN licensure! Exciting stuff for sure.

The half-marathon is this coming Sunday (the 18th). Krystyn and I feel we’re ready but you never know. I’ve never ran in any sort of marathon before so it should be interesting and hopefully a lot of fun!

House Stuff
We’ve learned a little bit more than we ever wanted to know about heat pumps, heat strips and thermostats. The heating system or whatever you want to call it in our home totally crapped out on us this February and of course it had to happen during the coldest weekend ever. The temperature in our house dropped down to 49 degrees by the time it was fixed but thankfully we shacked up with the in-laws. We had to leave the water running so the pipes wouldn’t freeze etc., etc. Not fun!

Lately we’ve been expanding our diet by including many Mediterranean/middle eastern dishes to include falafel which is a fried patty made from fava beans and/or chickpeas, couscous, hummus, baba ganoush (eggplant salad), Lebanese and Iranian cuisine. All totally yummy.

Yes….we are watching American Idol and are totally embarrassed to admit it. Totally love it! This season is crazy so far. Glad Antonella is gone but why is Sanjaya still there? I feel it’s just like one big joke we get suckered into every year and the votes don’t really count.

Love The Office. It’s our favorite show on TV! We still watch Lost but there better be some answers soon to keep us interested. Brian loves Heroes and still watches Smallville and Battlestar Galactica.

I’d like to go see 300 so hopefully we can make to the movies some time soon.

Okay, that was a quick update. We’ll write again soon!

We just had Directv installed, and I am already loving it. I’m currently watching the Hokies beat up on Miami (twenty more free throw attempts) on some sort of alternate Comcast Sports Net channel. I wouldn’t have been able to watch the game with Cox Cable.

The Hokies aside, we finally have high definition shows to watch on our HDTV. No HD locals yet (I’m working on getting one of these), but we do have ESPN HD, Discovery HD, and a handful of other HD channels. So far I’ve mostly watched ESPN HD, and I have one word for you – simply, totally awesome.

Some of the other HD channels have just been okay; I think they might upscale standard definition shows which, while they do look better than normal television, it’s just not high definiton. They do have Battlestar Galactica in HD though. 🙂 Heck, even the State of the Union is in HD tonight.

Some of the shows on Discovery HD look absolutely stunning, but how long can you watch flowing streams and algae growing? Pretty long if it’s in HD, it turns out.

And to top it off, we’re paying less than we did for cable, and that was without high definition.

Our TV clip

So did anyone catch us on the Holidays Windows show on HGTV? I know our friends Steve and Tanya saw us, and we received phone calls from our parents almost immediately after the show. We certainly were the hit of the show – all 2 seconds of us. I especially liked the poorly edited “That’s pretty cool.” thrown in by Monica.

Well, in case you missed it, I’ve included a little clip in this post (via a flash player). It’s something new I’m trying out so let’s see how it works.

Nov 292006

We didn’t make it downtown for the Macy’s parade, but we did manage to hit Manhattan on Black Friday to see the window displays. Macy’s definitely had the best, but they were all pretty good. You can check out the pictures here.

We walked all over downtown, and I even got my roasted chestnuts that I love. While we were checking out the windows at Bloomingdale’s, a man behind us asked us a question.

Him: You ever watch HGTV?

Us: Sure.

Him: Would you like to be on TV?

Us: Yeah, that would be great.

Him: We’re making a show about holiday windows, and we’d like you to just talk a little about what you see here.

Us: Okay, that sounds easy.

Then he gave us some microphones and started filming us. I don’t think we even realized what we were saying at the time because we couldn’t believe what we were doing. One second you’re enjoying Christmas decorations, and the next some dude has a camera and you’re waxing poetic about the artistry of Bloomingdale’s holiday windows. We moved from window to window, and then he finally turned the camera directly on us and started asking us questions. At the end we signed releases and then we were on our way. He said he’d even send us a copy of the show.

So if you’re watching HGTV on Sunday, December 3rd at 9pm, check out a show called Holiday Windows 2006. Who knows if we’ll even make it on the show, but it was fun while it lasted.

Season Three

I’m sitting here watching the Battlestar Galactica premiere, and it hasn’t disappointed yet.

The soundtrack is awesome and at times is very Gladiator-esque. They use music very well in this series.

The religion dynamic is very interesting – the humans, the good guys, being polytheistic while the cylons, the bad guys, are monotheistic. I’m not sure where they’re going with this, but I hope people don’t read too much into it.

I would love to be cast as a cylon on this show. You could die in every episode and just keep coming back week after week.

I think one of my favorite characters of this new season is going to be Dean Stockwell. Haven’t seen much of him since Quantum Leap.

So much to say

So, yes, it’s been awhile since I posted on here. Not sure why, but I just haven’t felt like writing anything. Sometimes I used to feel like I had to write these mini-essays about whatever was on my mind, and at times I wrote some really stupid stuff just because I thought I had to. I’ll probably still do that, but I’ll do my best to make it somewhat entertaining. 🙂

What have I missed since January?

  • The Super Bowl – The game was good; the commercials were terrible.
  • birthday – My Dad turned 65 on February 11. He can stop singing that Beatles song now. Happy very belated birthday, Dad!
  • Valentine’s Day – I bought Monica an iPod; she was very happy which means I was very happy.
  • DIY – We ripped up the vinyl flooring in our foyer and kitchen (NOT fun at all) and installed ceramic tile (actually not that difficult); it looks really good now even though I have a couple of things I still need to do to finish. I’ll post pictures showing our progress soon.
  • the Oscars – I convinced myself not to watch this year but I did anyway. Hooray for will-power. Really a boring show even though John Stewart was mildly humorous. George Clooney is better than the rest of America, and he knows it.
  • friends – Steve and Tanya held their engagement party in Richmond; we attended and had a great time. Congrats, guys!
  • madness – My NCAA basketball bracket is in flames for another year. I think next year I’m going to get Jack to make my picks because I can’t seem to fill out a good bracket to save my life.
  • wireless – Monica and I both upgraded our mobile phones. Yes, we gave into the marketing hype and are now proud owners of a couple of PEBLs. We got an awesome deal at CompUSA which even included a free Bluetooth headset. I’m in the process of modding them, but since they’re so new, there’s not a whole lot of information about that yet.
  • I’m sure there’s other stuff that I’ve forgotten that I failed to mention. Anyway, I’m back. I didn’t really go anywhere, but you know what I mean. Okay, back to watching basketball.

Jan 162006

I’m ashamed to admit that I actually watched the Golden Globe awards tonight. Actually, Monica forced me to watch it.

I was glad to see that Steve Carrell won for The Office. That by far is the best show on TV right now, and Steve is terrific on it. It really makes me LOL. Yes, I just typed LOL. And when I say LOL, I mean I actually laugh out load; I’m not just saying that I laugh out loud. Great show.

Other than that, a pretty boring show. It seems the magic formula for winning an award nowadays is to be in a movie that has something to do with someone who is sexually confused. Too bad for Hollywood that most of America has no interest whatsoever in those types of movies. What guy is going to admit to having paid to see Brokeback Mountain?

We went downtown today to see all of the Christmas decorations at the various spots: Macy’s, Rockefeller Center, Lord & Taylor, Sax 5th Ave, etc. I took a ton of photos which I’ll put on the site when we get back.

Tomorrow we’re heading back down there to do some shopping after we make an appearance on the Fox News show Dayside. It airs live at 1 pm tomorrow (Tuesday) so be sure to tune in!
