Back when we lived in Northern Virginia, Monica and I used to listen to a radio show called the Don and Mike Show. I started listening to the show about nine years ago and was quickly hooked, and Monica started listening not too long after that. It’s hard to describe why I listened as much as I did, but the show was strangely addictive, and since it was based in DC, I could relate to much of what was discussed. The hosts also lived much of their lives on the air so you got a chance to listen to their wives and learn about their families, especially the main man behind the mic, Don Geronimo.

Now that we’ve moved, I still listen to it, albeit not via conventional means, and I keep Monica up to date on the happenings with the people on the show. It’s weird, but when you listen to a show for as long as we have, you start to feel as if you sort of know the people. So it was a shock today to hear about the tragic car accident in which Don’s wife, Freda, was involved yesterday while driving back from Ocean City, MD. Her injuries were so severe that she died yesterday evening.

We listened to the show today (you can stream it over the web through the station’s website, and surprisingly there was a new episode today with everyone except Don. Mike, Buzz, and Rob talked about Freda and played some clips of her past appearances on the show, and you can hear the pain in their voices as they choked up at times. I don’t even know these people, and I feel silly writing like this about it, but I guess you imagine yourself in the same situation, and then you really empathize with the affected people. I can’t imagine what Don and Bart (their son) are going through right now.

May God be with them during this time of sorrow.

Sharooooooon!

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve put up the new design. Unfortunately, I haven’t finished converting every page yet so you’ll notice some items missing from the navigation and the poll doesn’t currently function. I should be able to finish everything this evening so check back tonight or tomorrow for the completed redesign.

So it seems as if it’s about to “go down” in Iraq. I knew it was coming, but it just seemed eerie to hear the President actually say it last night. We are both totally behind our President and our troops on this issue…it must be done. God be with them.

On a lighter note, we’re going to Ozzfest! I was the tenth caller on WJFK this morning so I won free tickets. I don’t think there are many bands that are going to be there to whom we listen on a regular basis, but, what the heck, it’s Ozzy. And if we don’t feel like going, we’ll just sell them. Easy money.

Had some issues last night and most of today so the site was down. But now we’re back up and running (hopefully for good).

I was listening to the Howard Stern show this morning on the local radio station and the DJ guy came on for a commercial break to tell me about Jimmy Kimmel’s new show on ABC and that if I was the tenth caller, I’d win a “Jimmy Kimmel prize pack”. Now I think Jimmy Kimmel is pretty funny, and a prize pack sounded pretty cool to me so I figured, what the heck, I’ll give it a shot. After a few busy signals, the phone starts to ring. A guy picks up and I ask, “Am I the tenth caller?” Yes! I’m a winner! So the guy rattles off what I’ve won in the aforementioned prize pack: a shot glass, a pillow case…and this is where I zoned about for a bit. There was one or two more things in the prize pack, but the inclusion of a pillow case threw me for a loop. At that exact moment, I was wondering what the heck a “Jimmy Kimmel pillow case” looks like and if I really wanted to float away to sleepy land while my face rested on Jimmy Kimmel’s nose. He takes my info and says I should get it in about one or two weeks. I’ll be sure to post some pics of the official prize pack once it arrives.
