School

Two weeks and a day! That’s what I have left of school. I am currently trying to survive my internship (preceptorship) and it’s going well. I’m a little tired but that was to be expected. Working 12 hours shifts is tough but I’m learning a lot and love the job. Taking on a full load of patients was a scary thought before the week started but I’m handling it okay and have to praise all the nurses out there who do it every day. After this week is over, I have 2 more weeks of lecture, one test and one gigantic final on May 1st. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it……

Everything Else

It is Brian’s birthday this month and I gave him a classical guitar as a gift. He has been wanting to learn the guitar for a long time and our good friend James has been teaching him and even letting Brian borrow his guitar. I thought it would be a perfect gift and he loved it. He practices every night and has a lot of fun. James and Krystyn were very generous and bought him a case for it and I am very thankful for their assistance in purchasing the guitar as I had no idea what to look for. You guys rock!

My mom just left after visiting for 10 days and we had a lot of fun together. I love listening to the latest Spanish music with her, watching our favorite novela “La Fea Mas Bella” on Univision and eating that wonderful Puerto Rican food she makes so well. She is the best cook in the world and I truly believe she could open a restaurant and make a fortune. I guess I’m a little biased but she rocks in the kitchen!!

Weather

Sucks right now. I’m waiting to put the jacket away but no such luck yet.

Vacation

Still planning. Not sure where we want to go this year. Last year we went to Disney World for a week and had the best time in the world. Trying to top it this year but Brian and I LOVE Disney so that will be hard to do. We’ll see.

That’s all for now.

I guess it’s about time to wish everyone a happy new year so…Happy New Year!

I haven’t updated much lately because I was off the entire week after Christmas, and we spent much of the time relaxing and taking day trips. I received a ton of great gifts, and as always, everyone was extremely generous and I’m very grateful. Lately I’ve been playing with one of my Christmas presents just a tad. Yes, I have one now thanks to Monica and her family. Woohoo!

So that’s taking up much of my free time right now, especially this game, and I haven’t done much of anything else. I haven’t even posted any Christmas pictures yet, but I think I’ll do those tomorrow.

Update: photos have been added here, here, and here.

So, yes, it’s been awhile since I posted on here. Not sure why, but I just haven’t felt like writing anything. Sometimes I used to feel like I had to write these mini-essays about whatever was on my mind, and at times I wrote some really stupid stuff just because I thought I had to. I’ll probably still do that, but I’ll do my best to make it somewhat entertaining.

What have I missed since January?

The Super Bowl – The game was good; the commercials were terrible.

birthday – My Dad turned 65 on February 11. He can stop singing that Beatles song now. Happy very belated birthday, Dad!

Valentine’s Day – I bought Monica an iPod; she was very happy which means I was very happy.

DIY – We ripped up the vinyl flooring in our foyer and kitchen (NOT fun at all) and installed ceramic tile (actually not that difficult); it looks really good now even though I have a couple of things I still need to do to finish. I’ll post pictures showing our progress soon.

the Oscars – I convinced myself not to watch this year but I did anyway. Hooray for will-power. Really a boring show even though John Stewart was mildly humorous. George Clooney is better than the rest of America, and he knows it.

friends – Steve and Tanya held their engagement party in Richmond; we attended and had a great time. Congrats, guys!

madness – My NCAA basketball bracket is in flames for another year. I think next year I’m going to get Jack to make my picks because I can’t seem to fill out a good bracket to save my life.

wireless – Monica and I both upgraded our mobile phones. Yes, we gave into the marketing hype and are now proud owners of a couple of PEBLs. We got an awesome deal at CompUSA which even included a free Bluetooth headset. I’m in the process of modding them, but since they’re so new, there’s not a whole lot of information about that yet.

I’m sure there’s other stuff that I’ve forgotten that I failed to mention. Anyway, I’m back. I didn’t really go anywhere, but you know what I mean. Okay, back to watching basketball.

So, did anyone see us on Dayside? It was a jolly good time, and I even got to ask a question. I’m not entirely sure why I asked the question that I did, but I just wanted to get on television so I got the job done. The set looks much smaller in person that it does on TV, and it’s pretty interesting to see how a show gets made. There’s a lot going on during the commercials, and it seems like one big controlled mess, but everything comes together when it counts.

We’ve headed downtown the last couple of days doing some shopping and seeing various sites. We even ate at an official New York diner.

And then last night, Monica and I finally saw King Kong. I have to say, I thought it was a great movie. It took a bit to get going at first, but Peter Jackson did a great job with Kong. His eyes were so expressive, and the relationship between Kong and Anne was so well done. It was so good that we hardly noticed the three hour length which reiterates how great a movie it is.

Tonight, we’re off to Radio City Music Hall to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes. After that we’re headed to <a title="quite the ritzy place, if you know what I mean" class="offsite" href='http://www.tavernonthegreen.com/">Tavern on the Green, all to celebrate Monica’s Mom’s 60th birthday. Happy Birthday, Julia!

We celebrated my Mom’s 59th birthday tonight with a nice, homemade dinner (chicken parmesan), and a disaster of a cake. You see, I was trying out a new recipe, but I tweaked it some, and the tweaking didn’t go over too well. It was supposed to be a chocolate marshmallow cake.

The result looked more like a stack of pancakes gone horribly wrong, but the overall taste was fairly good…or at least that’s what everyone was saying.
