Now that’s more like it

The Hokies have rebounded nicely in their last two games with an easy win over Southern Miss and a complete domination of the team formerly known as #10, Clemson. Wow, what a difference playing well on both sides of the ball makes.

The big difference though has been Brandon Ore. When everyone was asking him about which one of the two Clemson running backs was going to be better on Thursday night, he responded by saying he was the best of the three – and then he went out and proved it.

He followed up a great game against the Golden Eagles with a phenomenal peformance against the Tigers. I think he better take the offensive line out for a steak dinner to thank them for finally figuring out how to block.

The ACC Championship is a long shot so we’re just playing for pride and a New Year’s Day bowl game. I didn’t think that was feasible two games ago, but now I do. That is why I love this game.

Celebrity Sighting

In writing about the wedding last weekend, I forgot to mention that we saw Sissy Spacek in the hotel right after the rehearsal. We were walking through the lobby when we saw a woman holding alot of bags waiting for an elevator.

Monica: “Isn’t that…”

Me: “Sissy Spacek?”

It totally was. I haven’t seen too many movies with her in them, but I guess once you see someone on TV a few times, you recognize them pretty easily. Apparently she lives in Virginia somewhere, as does Robert Duvall (but we didn’t see him).

The elevator doors opened, and she walked in. Steve and Tanya were on their way upstairs to change clothes, and they got on the same elevator. We walked over to get a better look, all the while pretending that we were saying bye to Steve and Tanya. I think Ms Spacek figured out our ploy as she smiled at us.

Steve later told me that Sissy Spacek had a conversation with them about the wedding. Apparently he did not recognize her, but Tanya did, and now they have a great wedding story. Would have been an even better story had they invited her to the wedding.

October Wedding

Steve and Tanya exchanging vowsSpent the weekend in Richmond attending the wedding of two of our friends, Steve and Tanya. I was honored to serve as one of Steve’s groomsmen, and I think my ushering skills were top notch. Sharing their special day as well as spending the weekend with old friends was a true pleasure.

The weather was perfect, and we got to stay at a pretty nice hotel called the Linden Row Inn. The wedding itself was held at The Jefferson so we experienced some very old yet historic parts of Richmond. All in all, a very classy event, and a good time was had by all.

Congratulations, Steve and Tanya!

Meltdown

I watched one half of a football game tonight. Then after that, I don’t remember a game being played.

Right now, I’m embarrassed to be a Hokie. I’m tired of the excuses, the poor play, the personal fouls, the stupid penalities, and I’m tired of games like this. I’m tired of talented players underachieving. I’m tired of players losing their cool. I’m tired of teams with less talent beating us because they actually execute their plays correctly. I’m tired of our team having no heart.

And I don’t know how we can fix it.

Where are the protests?

So North Korea supposedly tested a nuke today. That’s super.

Why has the world allowed them to get to the point where they are even close? I just don’t get it. This is way more than the “provocative act” than Bush is calling it. I fault him for letting the situation get this far. I fault Clinton for giving them the technology in the first place and believing their lies. If it goes back further, anyone involved in appeasing this nut is to blame.

People are protesting us left and right and crowing how world opinion is against us, yet Kim Jong-il starves his own people and threatens neighboring countries with missles. Where are the protests against North Korea?

We’ve had lunatic dictators in the past lie to the world while they secretly planned to attack other countries. This guy is flat out defying the world and telling us what he is going to do. It’s alot tougher to deal with him now that he might have the capability of a first strike or to retaliate though. If anything happens, it will be on all our heads for letting the situation get this far.

Update: It looks as if the explosion that occurred may have in fact not been nuclear. If they don’t have the capability today, they will get it eventually if we let them. If they don’t yet, we need to nip this in the bud now.

Season Three

I’m sitting here watching the Battlestar Galactica premiere, and it hasn’t disappointed yet.

The soundtrack is awesome and at times is very Gladiator-esque. They use music very well in this series.

The religion dynamic is very interesting – the humans, the good guys, being polytheistic while the cylons, the bad guys, are monotheistic. I’m not sure where they’re going with this, but I hope people don’t read too much into it.

I would love to be cast as a cylon on this show. You could die in every episode and just keep coming back week after week.

I think one of my favorite characters of this new season is going to be Dean Stockwell. Haven’t seen much of him since Quantum Leap.
