So, did anyone see us on Dayside? It was a jolly good time, and I even got to ask a question. I’m not entirely sure why I asked the question that I did, but I just wanted to get on television so I got the job done. The set looks much smaller in person that it does on TV, and it’s pretty interesting to see how a show gets made. There’s a lot going on during the commercials, and it seems like one big controlled mess, but everything comes together when it counts.

We’ve headed downtown the last couple of days doing some shopping and seeing various sites. We even ate at an official New York diner.

And then last night, Monica and I finally saw King Kong. I have to say, I thought it was a great movie. It took a bit to get going at first, but Peter Jackson did a great job with Kong. His eyes were so expressive, and the relationship between Kong and Anne was so well done. It was so good that we hardly noticed the three hour length which reiterates how great a movie it is.

Tonight, we’re off to Radio City Music Hall to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes. After that we’re headed to

We went downtown today to see all of the Christmas decorations at the various spots: Macy’s, Rockefeller Center, Lord & Taylor, Sax 5th Ave, etc. I took a ton of photos which I’ll put on the site when we get back.

Tomorrow we’re heading back down there to do some shopping after we make an appearance on the Fox News show Dayside. It airs live at 1 pm tomorrow (Tuesday) so be sure to tune in!

Well, we are in the middle of a very good Christmas here in New York. We exchanged gifts already, and now we’re just relaxing and drinking some coffee while listening to Christmas music and watching some television.

The weather isn’t very Christmasy right now – lots of rain. Having spoken with friends and family from different parts of the country to wish them a Merry Christmas, it’s apparently raining everywhere.

We hope you are able to reflect on why we celebrate this holiday:

1. And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5. To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

We made the trip up to New York yesterday for the holidays. Let me tell you, leaving at 4:30 am is not fun, but we avoided most of the traffic…that is until we reached the George Washington bridge. Now we’re hanging out with Monica’s family waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.

Pretty busy week for us.

On Monday, Monica and I attended a luncheon for my Mom’s retirement. There’s not too many photos here yet, but there will be as soon as I get the pics from my Mom’s camera. We ate lunch at the Olive Garden and my Mom had to give a speech (she did a great job). It was really nice hearing her coworkers laud her with compliments, and her boss presented her with a few gifts and awards. On Tuesday, an admiral presented her with several awards from the Navy.

On Friday, Monica and I attended a luncheon for Marlene’s retirement luncheon. We ate lunch at the Marriott, and then listened as coworkers and bosses of Marlene told us what a pleasure it was to work with her. The special agent in charge of the Norfolk field office presented her with several gifts and awards, and then friends and family gathered at her home to enjoy food and drink while celebrating Marlene’s retirement.

On Saturday, Monica and I headed off to Williamsburg once again to check out the Christmas decorations. We bundled up as it was a bit cold, and the town was decorated very nicely, if a little subdued (just as it was back in colonial times). We even got to meet Thomas Jefferson.

Today, we joined my family at my Mom’s house to celebrate Christmas because we will be with Monica’s family in New York on Christmas Day. I’m still full from all the food I ate, and everyone was more than generous in their gifts. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful family.

Now it’s time to relax and go back to work.

We made our annual trek up to D.C. this past weekend to see the sights and visit some old friends. We even go to visit our old church.

Here are some photos from the weekend.

We celebrated my Mom’s 59th birthday tonight with a nice, homemade dinner (chicken parmesan), and a disaster of a cake. You see, I was trying out a new recipe, but I tweaked it some, and the tweaking didn’t go over too well. It was supposed to be a chocolate marshmallow cake.

The result looked more like a stack of pancakes gone horribly wrong, but the overall taste was fairly good…or at least that’s what everyone was saying.

I’ve posted a few photos of the festivities .

Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you!

It seems a little weird to call today Pearl Harbor Day. I mean, we don’t call 9/11 Twin Towers Day or Pentagon Day. It’s been so long since 1941 that most people can’t really relate to what Americans went through back then, but there are the inevitable comparisons to 9/11, so I imagine most people were pretty upset. When you read about how events transpired though, you realize that most people didn’t really understand the extent of attack until almost a year later when photos and full accounts of that day appeared in newspapers across the country.

A very good book to read on this subject is game of which we shall not speak ever again, and then the most unlikely of endings. Let the suck-fest continue.
