It was a proud day in Iraq yesterday as the Iraqi voter asserted himself en masse amidst the threat of death. Turns out President Bush may have known what he was talking about after all, eh?
It’s pretty embarassing compared to the turnout we normally get here…and we don’t have people blowing themselves up for no good reason.
I’m sitting here watching the Hokies get destroyed by the Blue Devils. College football season is over, so it’s time I start turning my attention to college basketball. There hasn’t been much to pay attention to though for Hokies basketball though, except for a couple of seasons in the 90s.
But, surprise, the Hokies have been on a roll lately, winning four in a row in a conference where everyone expected us to do absolutely nothing. Watching us beat UVA the other night, showed me that we can do something in the basketball-rich ACC. And it’s always nice to mop the floor with those filthy wahoos. I don’t even capitalize their name because they don’t deserve it. It’s always satisfying to beat them, but perhaps we’ll even make it to the postseason for the first time since 1996.
Hey, you’ve got to have something to do while waiting for football season to begin again, right?

I just wanted to announce that I have finished reading Lord of the Rings (actually a week or so ago).
Man, that is a long book, but a very enjoyable one. There is a ton that was left out of the movies, but I think both the films and the book are great and stand on their own.
And I’m sure Howard Shore would like to know that his score was playing in my head as I was reading. I guess I listened to it a bit too much.
Now maybe one day, I’ll get around to reading The Hobbit.

Well, I was trying to fight it off, but something definitely got ahold of me. I’m stuffed up, head in a vise, just plain sick. That and being pumped full of meds makes for wonderful days at work. Ugh.

I’m sitting here with Monica watching a couple episodes from the Seinfeld DVDs that we received for Christmas. They really did a good job with these things.
I especially like the “Notes About Nothing” that appear during each of the episodes. They really give a lot of insight into the production of the particular episode and the story behind it.
I’ve probably watched every episode at least three or four times in syndication, but it’s really nice being able to watch them any time you want. It will enable me to quote even more lines from the show in everyday conversation, because I certainly don’t do that enough as it is.

Ok, Apple, you’ve got me to buy an iPod, but I’m NOT going to buy anything called an iPod Shuffle or a Mac Mini.
Really, I’m not.
Why do I even care? I’m not an Apple fanatic or anything, but it seemed as if the entire Internet was buzzing over Macworld today. I guess I’m just a technology junkie, constantly striving to hear of new, cutting-edge gadgets.
I’ll admit the Mac Mini does look cool, but I’d rather build my own Shuttle box with Linux on it for half the price (though admittedly a larger form factor than the Mac Mini).
I’ll give Apple credit though; they really know how to announce a product.
And the iPod is way cool.

Since acquiring my iPod, I’ve discovered something that I would best describe as cable access radio. It’s called podcasting.
Podcasts are basically audio programs of varying length which are delivered to your computer via subscription. You don’t need an iPod or even an mp3 player to listen to them, just a computer. Just look up a podcast in a directory, subscribe to it using software such as ipodder or nimiq, and voila, you’re a podcast listener.
This seems to be the next big thing on the internet. Anyone with a computer and a microphone has the ability to create their own show, and there’s already a distribution system in place to push the show to anyone with an internet connection. I’m sure there are plenty of people currently plotting how they can make money on this.
Here are some podcasts to which I currently listen:
Engadget
The Laporte Report
Lifespring!
The Living Word
Reel Reviews
RevTim
Two Rights Conservative Political Discourse
Yesteryear Radio Vault
