So I forget to say what we did for the President’s Day holiday. Actually, it was only a holiday for me; Monica had to work.
On a side note, the official name is for the holiday is Washington’s Birthday, not President’s Day. If you don’t believe me, read this.
We had plans to do something historical like go to the Manassas battlefield, but we decided sleeping was so much fun that we got up too late. So what to do then? Well, I had the bright idea to do something that we used to do quite frequently. Go into DC and hang out.
It seems everyone else on the entire earth had this same idea.
We drove around forever looking for a parking spot by the museums, but it wasn’t meant to be. So after deciding to just call it a day and head home, a parking spot appears right as Constitution Ave. is ending (down by the Lincoln Memorial).
We had a nice, relaxing time walking round the tidal basin and visiting the Thomas Jefferson memorial, which I think is my favorite of all the memorials in DC. The only downer was all of the dead fish that were floating in the half-frozen tidal basin – very spooky. Aside from that, it was a beautiful day, and we even found a memorial that I had never seen before; it was a neglected World War I memorial to the soldiers from the District of Columbia.
On the actual Washington’s Birthday holiday, I spent most of the day filing our taxes and fiddling with the flaky website on which I filed them. I’m so glad to get those completed, and we’re actually getting a refund. So a Washington’s Birthday well spent.
Here’s something that I thought was just cool: a map of every state that I’ve visited.
There’s alot in the Mid-West and West that I’ve yet to visit, but I’ve got most of the East Coast locked up pretty well (except for a few in New England). Would be nice to say that you’ve visited all 50 states, you know? Admittedly, alot of the ones I’ve “visited” have just been via the airport or driving through on my way to another state, but that counts, doesn’t it?

I watched the interview with Mel Gibson on Primetime last night, and I have a new found respect for the man. The “must-see” factor is very high for me on The Passion of the Christ, and you have to admire his devotion and determination to get this kind of movie made in Hollywood today. I’m not a follower of his brand of Christianity, but it looks as if the guy has made one heck of a movie that adheres very closely to a literal translation of the four gospels. The spirit of what all Christians hold dear is definitely there.
He came off very well in the interview, in my opinion. It was a very good, solid discussion of the movie, his beliefs, his intentions for the film, and how it all ties together, and the editing wasn’t horrible (an unusual occurrence when you’re dealing with an overwhelmingly secular media). I figure this is going to be a tough movie to watch as the violence is pretty graphic, but I feel it is something I must endure. I can’t wait to see it.

Valentine’s Day is one of the days that I believe is dreaded by most men in this country. It is a day when they are expected to do something very romantic to prove to the women in their lives how much they are loved and appreciated. This holiday might have started as the holiday for lovers, but let’s face it, it has turned into a day that can make or break a man in any relationship. I have to admit that I am the type of woman that expects a little something from my husband on this day and the suffering he would endure would last at least until April. This is not because I need reassurance of his love and devotion, but because it makes me feel good to know that he has taken time away from his computers, video games, and TiVO to buy something that CAN’T be purchased at Best Buy.
Today, Brian had a dozen red roses delivered to my job and they made me feel like a princess. Thank you Brian! You have made it through Valentine’s Day and now you have a whole 5 months before our anniversary! I love you!

…my Dad was born.
You don’t often realize as you get older, that your parents are getting older as well. Part me still sees my dad as the guy teaching me to ride a bike in our backyard, pushing me along as I ride over gumball after gumball. I managed to finally ride that bike all on my own, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks, Dad, for helping me ride that bike and always being there to help push me along at the right times.
Happy Birthday, Dad!

This morning we woke up to our entire neighborhood covered with ice….again. In order for me to be able to walk little jack, I had to salt the sidewalk as I went in order not to fall. I also had to start my car and leave it running for about 20 minutes in order to melt some of the ice covering the windshield or at least make it easier to scrape off. This has been happening all winter and I am very tired of it all.
I have always maintained the fact that I HATE winter. I HATE being cold and I do not like winter weather at ALL. Well, there are plenty of people (men) that I know, that say they LOVE winter. They LOVE winter weather, snow, etc. What I have noticed is that those people (men) who I know that say that, somehow end up doing less shoveling, salting, scraping than the people (women) in their lives who HATE winter. If I didn’t have to deal with shoveling, scraping, salting and all those nasty chores that come along with winter weather as much as I do, I might LOVE it too.
PS – Total men discussed in the above blog equal 4…..you know who you are.

Rise and shine, campers, and don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cooooooold out there today!
The groundhog says six more weeks of winter.
Wonderful.
More sleet and snow is on the way tonight.
Wonderful.
I normally like winter, and it’s great to have it all wintry for Christmas. But just like last winter, it’s getting to be a bit much now. We’ve had to put up with weeks of twenty degree weather and snow that just won’t go away. The best part of the whole season is it gives me an excuse to watch one of the greatest movies of all time.
Well what if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today!
