Here’s wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend.
Happy Labor Day!
nothing to see here…
Well, the summer is almost over. Children are going back to school, the sunrise is a little later each day and soon we will start to feel that wonderful chill in the air. All of these things can only mean one thing…football season.
From fantasy football leagues, the Hokies and Monday night football, I don’t think I will see my new husband again until after the Super Bowl. Brian says the main reason we got married in the summer is because it did not interfere with any football. From now until February, Saturday errands or activities will have to be scheduled around Hokie games, going out to dinner must be at restaurants with lots of TVs and the ride home from church on Sundays will win any Nascar race.
To all the ladies out there who know what I am talking about I just want you to know, you are not alone. Here’s to another football season.
I left for Chicago last Thursday a little apprehensive as to what might happen at one of our most hectic meetings of the year. Although, the meeting was in fact really hectic and tiresome, I cannot believe everything that happened to everyone I know while I was away.
As soon as I get to Chicago, I get a phone call from Brian telling me that New York is without power and all I could think about was my brother. Fortunately for my mom, she was and still is in Puerto Rico, so she missed the whole thing. After a couple of hours of trying to reach my brother, he finally calls me and lets me know that he will be stuck at work and will sleep under his desk as he has no way of getting home. After this phone call, my mom calls to tell me that she is very worried about my brother and also told me that she had some kind of food poisoning and was more than sick. After this phone call from my mom, I get another phone call from Brian telling me that his dad needed emergency surgery and he was going home to be with him….at this point I had been gone for about 8 hours. I could not believe it!! Brian also hurt one of his knees and my friend Laura broke her nose in a Brady Bunch-like accident with a softball.
I am happy to report that my brother finally got home 30 hours later, my mom got over her food poisoning, Brian’s father is doing well, Brian’s knee is expected to be fine and Laura says that her nose is expected to make a full recovery.
I turn my back for a second and everything just goes all crazy! Lucky for all of you, I am back now. There is something to say about having me around.
So we’ve been married for one month now. I don’t know what people are talking about when they say marriage is difficult. So far this has been a piece of cake. We’ve been to Hawaii, and Monica has gone off to Chicago. Where’s the difficult times?
On a totally unrelated note, Monica gets home today.
Well, my weekend of home aloneness came to a screeching halt before it began. I received a call on Thursday evening that my Dad was in the hospital, and my mind frantically began thinking of what could have happened.
It turns out that during a visit for one minor problem, a smart doctor detected a symptom of another extremely serious problem that could have developed into a catastrophic ailment. In order to fix this problem, immediate surgery was required, so I raced out of here…for four hours…down to see my Dad in the hospital as he prepared for his surgery.
After a sometimes-emotional nine hours in the hospital, in which his surgery was delayed almost four hours, the ordeal was finally over. Now the recovery begins.
My Dad is home now and well on his way back to being 100%. Dad, I know the grass not being cut is really bugging you, but let it be, take it easy, and get well soon.
It’s times such as these that you really appreciate your loved ones.
So she left me. After only twenty six days of marriage, Monica just walked out the door….
…and to the airport to fly to Chicago for a meeting. It’s just me and Jack until Tuesday when she gets back. I have a few things to do on my “honey do” list, but I’ll also be able to catch up on some TV-watching and book-reading that I’ve fallen behind on since way before the wedding.
And I just got a call from her saying that she arrived safely and that something happened that is the most amazing thing ever…something that you only hear about happening to other people…something that never happens to us (or in this situation, her).
Her checked baggage was the first one out in baggage claim.
It didn’t even happen to me and I had to crack a smile.
This is one of those little things that just makes your day. And to top it all off, she got to ride in a limo from the airport to her hotel.
I think she enjoyed the baggage thing more though.
I just googled for something and saw that it’s the birthday of one of my favorite directors: Alfred Hitchcock. You may know (or maybe you don’t) that Monica and I are really nostalgic for nostalgia, and old movies really fuel those feelings.
If you haven’t seen any Hitchcock films, I highly suggest starting with this one.
And by the way, all of the honeymoon photos are up now. Next up, more reception pics.
Uploaded some more pics last night so most of them from the honeymoon are up now; just a few more to go. I remember looking through all of them when we had dinner with our friends, Mike and Laura, last week. We were still in a state of shock to be back home…especially after looking at the Maui pics.
Have I mentioned lately that we wish we were still there?
I’ve been sitting on this update for awhile, but I finally decided to unleash it on everyone. The most notable addition is the ‘recently added photos’ section on the left of the front page. Now you can see when I add or update photos. Isn’t that the coolest?
Well, at least I thought it was cool.
Well, it’s official now. Monica went to the Social Security office and the DMV this week to get her new name. I guess it would be a bad time to tell her I was just kidding?
Another reason it’s good to be a man – no name changes.
And now people will stop asking us that dreaded question “When are you getting married?”…
…and start asking us that other dreaded question “When are you going to have kids?” *
Can we go back to Hawaii?
* That reminds me to congratulate Mark & Lorena on their new baby boy, Kaleb, and Dave & Karen on their new baby boy, Nathaniel. Way to go!
